Volatility Predicts Volatility

S&P 500 is close to all-time highs. VIX is at 17. VIX is a bit elevated. The clue lies in the VIX futures, which are significantly higher. In a typical bull market environment, they should be close to the VIX (in the high teens). In other words, the options market is betting on higher volatility over the next few months. I’m with them. This indicator, among others, tells me that when algorithms drive the market to all-time highs, instead of celebrating, I should hedge, trim my positions, or get out. Dennis

US Dollar Weakness

The US Dollar is having a miserable year. There are several reasons why the dollar is currently weak, including tariff uncertainty, a higher likelihood of a recession, and capital outflows from the United States. While we don’t see this bear market as permanent or dangerous, we believe the decline will continue until investors sense more certainty. There is no reason to get bullish on the Dollar from the technical standpoint either. It is in a steady decline without being oversold. As long as the Dollar is weak, Gold will continue to shine. We expect this trend to continue.
