Daily Mining Update — August 17, 2026: Today’s mining news is led by a proposed Australian gold acquisition, fresh gold and copper exploration updates, a Nevada producer’s quarterly results, and new financing and project-development activity across the sector.

OceanaGold proposes A$776 million Ausgold acquisition

OceanaGold Corporation (TSX/NYSE: OGC) entered a definitive scheme implementation deed to acquire 100% of Ausgold Limited (ASX: AUC), owner of the Katanning Gold Project in Western Australia. The proposed consideration is 0.03365 OceanaGold shares per Ausgold share, implying approximately A$1.36 per Ausgold share and an equity value of about A$776 million. A cash alternative is available subject to a maximum aggregate cash pool of A$194 million. The transaction remains subject to shareholder, regulatory and exchange approvals; completion is expected in December 2026 if conditions are satisfied.

Mining Americas reports Q2 gold production and Pan mine guidance

Mining Americas Inc. (TSX: MAI; OTCQX: MAIFF) reported Q2 2026 revenue of US$32.6 million and gold production of 8,217 ounces from its Pan mine in Nevada. Gold sales totaled 8,329 ounces at an average realized price of US$3,920 per ounce. The company said it remains on track for 2026 Pan mine guidance of 32,000–38,000 ounces, with cash-cost guidance of US$1,750–1,900 per ounce and all-in sustaining cost guidance of US$1,850–2,000 per ounce. Engineering and construction planning also continued at the Copperstone project in Arizona.

Eagle Plains reports high-grade grab samples at Pine Channel

Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. (TSXV: EPL; OTCQB: EGPLF) reported results from its 2026 field program at the 100%-owned Pine Channel Property in Saskatchewan. Of 55 rock samples collected, results ranged from trace values to a high of 269 grams per tonne gold; 13 samples returned more than 1 g/t gold, including three above 100 g/t. The company notes that grab samples are selective and may not represent average grades across the property.

Banyan Gold intersects 13.03 g/t gold over 14.2 metres

Banyan Gold Corp. (TSXV: BYN; OTCQB: BYAGF) reported drillhole AX-26-874 results from Powerline North at the AurMac Project in Yukon. The hole intersected 13.03 g/t gold over 14.2 metres, including 142.70 g/t over 1.0 metre. Banyan said the interval extends mineralization toward a largely undrilled gap between the Powerline and Airstrip deposits. The results are part of an ongoing program focused on resource conversion, expansion and delineation; they do not by themselves establish an economic mineral reserve.

Gunnison Copper expands Arizona drilling and metallurgical work

Gunnison Copper Corp. (TSX: GCU; OTCQB: GCUMF; FSE: 3XS0) said two drill rigs are active at its Arizona project, with metallurgical drilling at the Gunnison deposit complete and work beginning at the Strong & Harris deposit. The district-wide program is planned for up to 120 holes totaling approximately 138,000 feet, or 42,000 metres, with investment exceeding US$15 million. Column-leach testing has been expanded to 405 planned tests, and the company expects to move to as many as six rigs in September. Preliminary results are expected in Q4 2026, while full results are anticipated in mid-2027.

South32 maintains 19.9% interest in American Eagle Gold

American Eagle Gold Corp. (TSXV: AE) said a South32 subsidiary exercised its top-up right to maintain a 19.9% interest. American Eagle plans to issue 660,000 shares at C$1.09 per share for gross proceeds of C$719,400, with the funds designated for general corporate and working-capital purposes. Closing is expected on or before August 28, 2026, subject to customary conditions, regulatory approvals and TSX Venture Exchange acceptance. The company states that no mineral resource or reserve has been estimated at its NAK copper-gold project.

Medaro signs definitive earn-in for Swedish silver-zinc project

Medaro Mining Corp. (CSE: MEDA; OTCID: MEDAF; FSE: 1ZY) entered a definitive earn-in agreement with Sinclair Gold Ltd. (ASX: SGC) for the Sala Silver-Zinc Project in central Sweden. The project covers exploration permits totaling 91 square kilometres. Medaro can earn up to a 90% interest through C$800,000 in cash payments, 800,000 shares and C$1.75 million in exploration spending; it may then acquire the remaining 10% under additional terms. The agreement remains subject to stated consents and regulatory approvals.
